110626. Finalförlust för USA.
USA förlorade Guldcupsfinalen mot regionens andra storlag Mexico med 2-4 efter att själva ha tagit en tidig 2-0 ledning. För Alejandro Bedoya slutade matchen förmodligen också med något av en besvikelse. Han tog visserligen för tredje matchen i rad en plats i startelvan, men byttes ut i den 63:e minuten vid ställningen 2-3 mot en renodlad anfallare.

Betygsättningen efter matchen tyder på olika uppfattningar om hans insats:

Alejandro Bedoya, 3 — Bedoya had one big match in the Gold Cup but faded as the competition improved. Saturday against Mexico he was out of his element. He was invisible early as the right-sided attacker in a 4-2-3-1. Bedoya found a few ways to get involved after 20-25 minutes, but he was never much of a factor and left after 62 minutes. Still, this wasn’t a poor tournament for a young guy who was only here due to a late Benny Feilhaber injury.

Alejandro Bedoya: Lots of energy, little quality — that’s Bedoya’s game right now. Against a lesser squad, Bedoya’s speed and commitment is sufficient. Against Mexico, it’s not even close. Rating: 3.5

 

110625. Finalspel för Alejandro?
I natt eller kanske snarare i morgon (väldigt tidigt) spelas finalen i CONCACAF-turneringen The Gold Cup. I potten ligger förutom äran även ett deltagande i nästa Confederations Cup.

Alejandro Bedoyas status i truppen har succesivt förbättrats under turneringens gång. I de två senaste omgångarna har han varit en av USA:s elva startspelare och i semifinalen fick han dessutom vara med från start till mål. Förhandstipsen i USA lutar nog åt att det blir ytterligare en plats i startelvan för honom. Möjligheterna till detta har förbättrats i och med att USAs förbundskapten under de senaste två matcherna spelat ett femmannamittfält, vilket man lär göra mot finalmotståndarna från Mexico också.

110623. 90 plus för Alejandro.
När USA tog revansch på och besegrade Panama med 1-0 i Guldcupen fick Alejandro Bedoya vara med från start till sista övertidsminuten. Från att ha varit ”bortglömd” och kvarlämnad i Örebro har han på några veckor tagit steget till startspelare  i USAs landslag. Nu återstår bara finalen mot Mexico i turneringen.

Alejandro Bedoya (6.5) – Perhaps the best US player in the first half, Bedoya again ran his Energizer battery full power into every attack situation he could find. He also got back to pitch in a few defensive plays and combined with Bradley to play out of a tight spot for Adu on the goal play.

6 Alejandro Bedoya. (Orebro/SWE) 12/0. Seldom given much time or space to show his trickery, he tested Panama often by hard running and sharp touches. Also vied for head balls and won a few of them against bigger, stronger opponents to put chances in threatening situations. Served a nice cross that a teammate headed just behind Dempsey, worked a combination with Agudelo and Cherundolo that Panama stopped with a desperate tackle at the edge of the penalty area.

Led by the industrious Alejandro Bedoya, who put in Herculean efforts of shutting down would-be attackers behind the half line while sprinting ahead to gain field possession when the ball was hucked up the field, the midfield solved their early Gold Cup challenge against Panama of shutting down Panamas passers in the defensive half. Gone were the free looks and passing channels that led to the States lone group stage loss.

Alejandro Bedoya, 5 — A far less effective night than in his breakout performance Sunday against Jamaica — but this was always going to be a tougher test, against a burly side that defends in two well-organized lines. The right-sided attacker did deliver one telling cross for Clint Dempsey, although nothing came of it. Otherwise, he was busy and did draw a yellow card on the equally involved Cooper, but Bedoya won’t remember this as one of his better nights.

110620. Bra match av Bedoya.
Alejandro Bedoya får genom gående bra vitsord för sin insats i gårdagens landskamp mot Jamaica. Detta efter det att han mycket överraskande fått starta i stället för stjärnan Landon Donovan. Av rapporterna att döma så påminde hans prestation mycket om vad vi ser honom leverera här i Örebro. Med hans fina turnering ökar nog risken/chansen att han snart lämnar ÖSK. Å andra sidan kommer klubben att få bättre betalt för honom, skulle jag tro.

Alejandro Bedoya, 7 — The young attacker, fresh from relative inactivity, was sharp in his biggest role yet in a U.S. shirt, asked to start and to stretch the field on the right in 65 highly active minutes. He added lots of energy and even some improvisation to a U.S. attack that has been pretty listless. Bedoya came close to scoring several times. And even though he doesn’t have great size, the young attacker made things happen on headers near goal, which says a lot about his commitment.

Sharp and clever on the ball, and constantly active away from the play, Bedoya rekindled memories of his promising first few appearances for the U.S. He used both feet to hit crosses from the right flank, and also contributed defensively. He earned applause by tracking back all the way to his own endline to blunt a Jamaican attack late in the first half. Headed down a cross from Kljestan to provide a chance for Dempsey.

110619. USA till semifinal.
USA besegrade Jamaica med 2-0 och Alejandro fick vara med på planen i 66 minuter. Nerikes Allehanda rapporterar om en bra match för Alejandros del och att han inte såg speciellt glad ut då han blev utbytt. I semifinalen kommer USA att få möta segraren i kvartsfinalen mellan Panama och El Salvador. (Det blev Panama).

110619. Bedoya i Startelvan.
Alejandro har gjort så bra ifrån sig som inhoppare i Guldcupen, att han i nattens kvartsfinal mot Jamaica får vara med redan från minut 0. Bra jobbat av vår dynamiske evighetsmaskin, som ju bara var reserv i den tilltänkta turneringstruppen. Han kom in i den tack vare en stukad fot och nu har han spelat sig till en plats bland de elva som får börja.

110615. Bra inhopp av Alejandro.
USA spelade och vann sin tredje gruppspelsmatch i Guldcupen genom en 1-0 seger mot Guadelope. Det verkar inte ha varit någon toppmatch från jänkarnas sida, men en vinst är ju som bekant alltid en vinst och laget är nu klart för slut- och utslagsspelet. Närmast på motståndarlistan står Jamaica, som man kommer att möta på söndag.

Alejandro fick börja på bänken och blev inbytt som vänsterbräddare i den 64:e matchminuten. En kvart senare skickades han fram i anfallet efter det att matchvinnaren Jozy Altidore blivit utbytt.

Vår (än så länge) mittfältare fick genomgående god betyg för sin insats och frågan är om han inte till och med börjar närma sig en plats i startelvan. Sports Illustrated ger hans insats följande omdöme:

Alejandro Bedoya, 7 — A good night for the U.S. attacker who came in for Wondolowski in the 64th, playing along the left while Dempsey made his usually shift to forward. Bedoya didn’t score but was busy making things happen, taking on defenders, moving sharply off the ball and such. He nearly got onto a couple of headers at the far post, and he put one on a tee for Dempsey. Ahem. We’ve already talked about that one.

Alejandro Bedoya, 6 – Bedoya came in and did what he was supposed to do. He had opportunities to score or set up goals and wasn’t able to do either, but the enthusiasm he brought off the bench has been what the doctor ordered for the U.S. in this tournament. The question has to be asked, and as he makes a case to get into the starting 11 will continue to be raised. How was this guy not originally on the team?

He nearly scored on a point-blank opportunity in the 69th minute and nearly connected on a header in the 80th, but like so many other U.S. players, his efforts fell just short or a bit wide. 110612.  Inbytt och varnad mot Panama.
Alejandro Bedoya fick en halvtimmes spel, då USA för första gången i fotbollens världshistoria fick se sig besegrade av Panama. Matchen slutade med en 2-1 förlust för värdnationen. Det var också den första gången som USA förlorade en gruppspelsmatch i Guldcupen. Panamas båda mål gjordes i första halvlek och det verkar som om USAs anfallsspel blev bättre efter det att Alejandro och Sacha Kljestan bytts in efter ca en timmes spel. Alejandro varnades redan efter några minuters spel, då domaren ansåg att han försökt dyka sig till en straffspark. En match återstår nu i gruppspelet för USAs del. De möter Guadeloupe på tisdag. Vid vinst är de garanterade en fortsättning i turneringen oberoende av resultatet i övriga matcher.

NY Times fotbollsblogg tycker: Alejandro Bedoya: Bedoya also joined the action in the 60th minute and made a spectacle of himself four minutes later with a sprawling dive inside the box. In real time, it looked as though Bedoya was fouled by Panama’s goalkeeper and had won a penalty kick. But replays clearly showed that the referee, Rodriguez Moreno, made the right call on simulation and that Bedoya deserved the yellow card he received. Rating: 5

110608. Bänkplats mot Canada.
USA spelade i natt sin första gruppspelsmatch i Guldcupen, då Canada besegrades med 2-0. Alejandro Bedoya fick en bänkplats, men byttes aldrig in.
